Baseball

Jackson Senior Babe Ruth: Tryouts for the Jackson Senior Babe Ruth will be Saturday and May 15. Sessions will be 1-3 p.m. at the Jackson Legion Field. Open to players 16 to 19 prior to Aug. 1. Players fee is $80. Info: Rick Chastain, 204-1134.

Basketball

High school leagues: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer its fourth annual high school girls and boys basketball leagues for players in grades 9-12. Boys league begins June 8 and plays on Tuesdays; girls begin June 10 and play on Thursdays. Sessions will be at the Osage Community Centre and will begin at 6 p.m. Fee is $183.75 per team; the registration deadline is May 14. Golf

Juniors event: The Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation's Junior Golf Day is May 22 at the Cape Jaycee Golf Course. Event begins at 8 a.m. and includes a tournament for teams consisting of a junior player (ages 7-16) and an adult player. Juniors also may participate in a drive, chip and putt competition. Kelly boosters tournament: The third annual Kelly Athletic Booster Club Golf Tournament is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. May 24 at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. Board of Realtors tournament: The seventh annual Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors Golf Tournament will begin 1 p.m. May 21 at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. Four-person scramble with entry fee of $70 per person or $280 per team. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity. Entry deadline May 14. Entries returned to Board of Realtors, 1301 N. Kingshighway, Suite D in Cape Girardeau.

Friends of St. Francis event: The Ken Hayden Memorial Golf Tournament, a mixed doubles competition to benefit the St. Francis Women's HeartAdvantage program, is scheduled for May 24 at Cape Girardeau Country Club. United Way tournament: The 17th annual United Way of Southeast Missouri Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 7 at Cape Girardeau Country Club. The event is a four-person scramble for men and women, with handicapped scoring. The entry fee is $100 per person and includes lunch, cart, prizes. Tee time is 1 p.m. Entry deadline is May 14. Players pass: Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course will begin offering the Twenty Players Pass on Friday. The pass is $200 and covers 20 greens fees that can be used by any golfer at any time this year for up to 18 holes of play. Pass cannot be used for tournaments. Southeast summer camps: Southeast Missouri State University summer sports camps begin in June, with coaches and athletes instructing. Some of the camps are for individuals and some are for teams. Most of the camps have sessions for grade school through high school age participants. Outdoors

Youth fishing: The 15th annual Youth Catch and Release Fishing Day -- presented by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, the Breakfast Optimist Club and the Missouri Conservation Department -- will be 8:30 a.m.-noon May 15 at the Capaha Park pond. Children 15 and under are invited to bring their poles and bait. Prizes for biggest and smallest fish and for a casting contest. Info: 334-2859 or 335-5421.

Soccer

Challenger camp: The Challenger British Soccer Camp is scheduled for June 28-July 2 at Jackson City Park soccer field No. 1. The camp includes 1 1/2-hour sessions for novice players and three-hour sessions for recreational and competitive players. The staff also will offer a free coaching clinic for parents and coaches. JHS youth camp: The Jackson High School Youth Soccer Camp is open to all youths entering grades 1-8. Camp will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. each evening June 7-11 at the Jackson High School soccer fields. Free clinic: The Cape Area Tennis Association is offering a free youth tennis clinic on May 22 at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis courts, Sprigg and Bertling. Track and field

Hershey meet: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer the 15th annual Hershey Track and Field Local Meet 9 a.m. June 12 at the Central Junior High School track. Open to boys and girls ages 9-14; $2 entry fee. Six running events, two field events and one relay. Volleyball

High School Indoor Volleyball League: Offered by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department for the 12th year. Open to those in grades 9-12. League play begins June 2, concludes July 28. Sand volleyball leagues: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will offer 6-on-6 and 4-on-4 sand volleyball leagues. Entry fee is $106 per team; registration deadline May 21. Games will be played at Arena Park sand volleyball courts. Leagues tentatively scheduled to begin May 31 with games Monday and Thursday for 6-on-6 and on Tuesday for 4-on-4.
