County speeding

OUT AT Egypt Mills on County Road 634 we have a 25-mph speed limit. Hardly anyone pays any attention to it. This is like a race track. Where is the law?

Sounds Indian

REGARDING THE fiasco over finding a new Southeast Missouri State University nickname, am I the only person who thinks the two choices -- red hawks and red wolves -- also sound like Indian names? Why do they think one of these names would be better?

Where were they?

I THOUGHT it was kind of funny that the residents of Cape Girardeau passed on attending the fire tax forum. I just have one question: Why didn't the police, firefighters and paramedics' spouses show up for this? Makes you wonder.

Selling the tax

I RECKON Friday's paper says it all: The residents pass on attending fire tax forum that's going to be on the June 8 ballot. Maybe the mayor should rethink his sales pitch there about the fire department and the police department being the most important thing in the city and needing all that tax money for equipment and raises and what not. Maybe he should sell the sales tax pitch to the departments that actually benefit the city the most, which would be solid waste, public works and those that keep this city running.

Proper eating

I LOOKED at all the pictures in the 2004 graduating class for Central High School, Notre Dame Regional High School, Jackson High School and Saxony Lutheran High School. I'm impressed that there were so few pictures that showed seniors who were grossly overweight. This is contrary to all the media reports. These people have really taken care of themselves as far as proper eating, and I'm really proud and very happy that they have done that. I hope they continue it.

Get a buffalo

KEEP CHIEF Sagamore as a respected Indian. Get him a buffalo for a mascot.

Whatever it takes

SO MANY Americans are outraged by the abuse of Iraqi prisoners, but where is their outrage when it comes to our soldiers and other Americans being slaughtered? These prisoners are terrorists who would kill American civilians without blinking an eye. They deserve to be punished and interrogated to help us catch more terrorists. When are Americans and other countries going to realize we are at war? There are no rules for these terrorists. They beheaded Daniel Pearl and Nick Berg and crashed planes into our buildings and even blow up their fellow Iraqis. We need to do whatever it takes to win this war on terror.
