There will be no shortage of kicking in Cape Girardeau this weekend.

Whether it's bucking broncos trying to get cowboys off their backs at Cape's Wildest Rodeo or kids kicking soccer balls into nets, objects will be flying in the air at Arena Park and Shawnee Soccer Park.

Cape's Wildest Rodeo, in its fourth year, features cowboys and cowgirls from the Missoui Rodeo Cowboys Association and the American Cowboys Rodeo Association competing in nine events: bareback riding, saddle bronc, calf roping, steer wrestling, breakaway roping, barrel racing, over-40 calf roping, team roping and bull riding.

The event begins at 6 this evening in front of the grandstand at the A.C. Brase Arena Building. Another performance is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday.

The rodeo is a fund raiser for Shriner's Hospital for Children.

More than 160 competitors have entered the event, which includes slack on Friday night. A band will perform in the arena building following Saturday's competition. Shriner's clowns will be on hand to entertain and the Shriner's mounted patrol also will have representatives at the event.

The Cape Area Youth Soccer Association's 23rd annual Spring Soccer Classic will bring 71 recreational teams to Shawnee Soccer Park.

The tournament will have teams in divisions from first grade through high school. Games will be played all day Friday and Saturday and until about mid-afternoon on Sunday.
