The Cape Girardeau Area Church Women United met at Abbey Road Christian Church on April 4 for Bible study and a board meeting. The Bible study was led by Marge Janssen. It was held in preparation of May Friendship Day to be held May 2 at St. Vincent de Paul Church. This will be a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. in the lower level. It is wheelchair- and handicapped-accessible. The annual scholarship will be presented to a young woman who is studying at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. Child care will be available, and board members will be table leaders.

Shirley Patterson, co-leader, led the business meeting. The minutes were read and approved. Martha Sanderson, treasurer, handed out the treasurer's report and said that $139 was collected at World Day of Prayer. There are now 68 paid members.

World Day of Prayer held at Old St. Vincent's Church was an impressive service with the Rev. Rehab Isador serving as speaker. Thank-you notes were sent to those who spoke and gave tours of the church. Patterson reported that 55 had attended World Day of Prayer at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.

Joyce King and Patterson attended a recent CWU board meeting in Jefferson City, Mo.

King will send Adopt-a-leader notes to female government leaders in Cape Girardeau and Jackson.

King passed out booklets for Festival of Sharing, which will be Oct. 18 at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Mo. There will be an area ingathering at Dexter, Mo., on Oct. 11 in which CWU donations will be taken. The project for the group is Church World Service Layette for 2008. Churches may do other projects that are described in the booklet.

The next meeting will be the May Friendship Day. The June 6 meeting will be a Bible study and business meeting at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
