Dr. A.L. Schrader, 81, of Trenton, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 6, 2008.

He was born June 16, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, and lived here many years.

Schrader served the Trenton area as a general practitioner and surgeon 48 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Combat Engineers of the U.S. Army. He was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.

Schrader was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Trenton. His civic involvements have included serving on the Trenton Health and Education Board, Rotary Club, Masons, West Tennessee Council of Boy Scouts, VFW and Elks. He was appointed by Gov. Winfield Dunn to the Osteopathic Medical Licensing Board for the state of Tennessee for several years and served as president.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Roberson Schrader; two sons, Alfred Schrader III of West Hartford, Conn., George Schrader of Jackson, Tenn.; a daughter, Laura Crenshaw of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; three stepchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Shelton Funeral Home in Trenton.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Trenton. Burial will be in Griffins Chapel Cemetery near Bradford, Tenn.
