Area school superintendents applaud Missouri Supreme Court's decision yesterday dismissing state's appeal of ruling throwing out old school-funding system; but they say that despite state's new funding formula, equitable state aid for Missouri's schools hasn't yet been achieved.

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Kenny Hulshof, native of Charleston who gained statewide recognition for his handling of high-profile murder cases for attorney general's office, has been chosen as Republican candidate for Congress in 9th District.

Cape Girardeau firefighters set up pickets at three of city's four fire houses and at city hall as part of work slowdown aimed at forcing city to meet their demands for increased wages and better retirement program; firefighters unanimously decided last night to enact slowdown after city manager W.G. Lawley told bargaining committee that city wasn't changing its original wage increase offer.

Independent owner-operator truckers have moved into Cape Girardeau area and shut down oil terminals here and near Scott City; also being affected by truckers' blockades are Jerry Lipps Trucking Co. and Missouri Pacific Railroad facilities, which share road right of way in South Cape Girardeau.

Rainstorm of near cloudburst proportions sweeps across three-county area, swelling small streams, causing some damage to crops and delaying farm operations at critical harvest time; rain belt extends north of Perryville to mid-Scott County and fans into Illinois, drenching area from Anna to near Cairo; fall ranges from 1.13 inches at Cape Girardeau to unofficial 6 inches at Wittenberg.

Ralph S. Lorimier, great-great-grandson of Louis Lorimier, founder of Cape Girardeau, died yesterday in St. Louis, where he was born and spent all his life.

75 years ago: June 22, 1929

For first time since he was shot and wounded week ago, police officer Robert Wilson is permitted to leave St. Francis Hospital for short time, during which he visits barber shop and friends downtown; he returns to hospital within two hours; his condition continues to improve, but he will likely be in hospital for several more days.

Mr. and Mrs. James A. Finch and family move from 342 N. Park to 615 N. Henderson, residence which they recently purchased from Mrs. Mary Himmelberger; Mr. and Mrs. Julien Friant moved Friday from the Henderson house to residence at Bellevue and North Lorimier, known as Fagan property.
