PARK HILLS, Mo. (AP) -- Funeral services will be Thursday for an off-duty police officer who died while participating in a cancer fundraiser he and his wife organized.

St. Francois County Detective Sergeant Joe Crump died Sunday, a day after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. 67. He was with the department for nine years, and before that worked for the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 18 years.

Crump was 56 and lived in Farmington.

The patrol says Crump was participating in the Probation and Parole Slammers Poker Run to benefit St. Francois County Relay for Life. His motorcycle changed lanes and traveled off the roadway, then overcorrected and overturned.
