Highway 177 between Cape Girardeau County Road 643 and 657 has been closed due to rising floodwaters from the Mississippi River, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. At 9 a.m. Tuesday, 10 inches of water was on the closed section of the road. MoDOT officials urged motorists to use caution.
Water has been over the road for several days, prompting the placement of warning signs about water over the road just outside the Cape Girardeau city limits last week. Route C was closed in Perry County on June 17 due to river flooding between county roads 352 and 354, and Route E just outside Commerce in Scott County is also closed.
