Maurice F. Filla, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston, Mo.

He was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Washington, Mo., son of Andy and Pauline Kluba Filla. He and Leona Frederick were married in 1943 in Camp White, Ore. She died March 26, 1995. He and Emma Trautwein were married in November 1995 in Cape Girardeau. She died Nov. 1, 2007.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 28, 1942. He was honorably discharged Dec. 15, 1944, as a sergeant.

Filla was a pipefitter with Pipefitters Union, retiring in 1986.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Filla of Cape Girardeau, and a brother, Richard Filla of Washington.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and seven brothers.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. July 12 at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rodger Kiepe officiating.
