Cheryl Ellis, an advertising sales representative for the Southeast Missourian, created the Southeast Missouri Jr. several years ago as a way of reaching children and getting them involved in healthy, wholesome and entertaining learning activities. Since, then "The Junior" has won numerous regional and national journalism awards.

Thanks to the city's Parks and Recreation Department and many helpers, the annual Parks and Rec Day has become one of the major events of the year. Congratulations to everyone who makes it happen.
