Rosa Carter

LICK CREEK, Ill. -- Rosa H. Carter, 96, of Lick Creek died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at her daughter's home in Lick Creek.

She was born June 6, 1912, in Saratoga, Ill., daughter of Charles and Mary Hartley Brasel. She and Vern Carter were married Dec. 29, 1934, in Golconda, Ill. He died Oct. 31, 1995.

Carter was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, most recently the Anna Eastern Star Chapter.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Brannon of Houston and Janet Mixen, of Lick Creek; a sister, Florence Bartruff of Anna, Ill.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, three sisters and a grandson.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Mixen officiating. Burial will be in McGinnis Cemetery.
