Vertus Dodson

ANNA, Ill. -- Vertus Marie Dodson, 93, of Greenup, Ill., formerly of Anna, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenup.

She was born April 9, 1915, in Delta, Ill., daughter of Charles and Ida Dickerson. She and Clyde Dodson were married Oct. 21, 1932, in Ullin, Ill. He died Dec. 5, 1975.

Dodson was a member of First Baptist Church in Anna.

Survivors include five daughters, Shirley Deweese of Granite City, Ill., Lillie Stone of Dongola, Ill., Sylvia Woods of Oblong, Ill., Judy Jackson of Hidalgo, Ill., Sandy Ross of Princeton, Ind.; three sons, Lowell Dodson of Jasonville, Ind., Ron and Bob Dodson of Terre Haute, Ind.; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ill.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gene Ellis officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
