Albert "A.J." Fowler, 78, of Scott City died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Advance, Mo., son of Virgil D. Fowler and Thelma L. Watson. He and Dorothy Louise Newlin were married Jan. 20, 1956, in St. Louis; she preceded him in death.

Fowler was a mechanic who owned and operated a Conoco service station in Scott City; he also was a driver for Black's Limo Service for Union Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads. He was a member of New Life Gospel Center in Scott City and of the Masonic Lodge in St. Louis.

Survivors include two sons, John Fowler and "Jerry Lee" Fowler, both of Scott City; five daughters, "Barbara Jo" Fisher and Jeffrey Fowler of Cape Girardeau, "Donna Rose" Williams of Whitewater, "Peggy Sue" Daniels of St. Peters, Mo., Jayne Griffard of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; a brother, Ronald Fowler of Delta; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Revs. Jack Owens, Ernest Kight Jr. and Bradley Fowler officiating.

Interment will be Tuesday in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
