Southeast Missouri State director of athletics Don Kaverman is one of three finalists for the position of associate athletics director at Ferris State University.

Ferris State, located in Big Rapids, Mich., competes in NCAA Division II for all sports except men's ice hockey, which fields a Division I program.

The other finalists, as listed on the Ferris State Web site, are Dr. Rob Barnhill, director of athletics at Division III Concordia University in Wisconsin; and Jon Coles, activities and athletics director/assistant principal at Big Rapids (Mich.) High School.

Kaverman, along with the other finalists, are taking part in on-campus interviews and public forums this week. Kaverman is scheduled for his on-campus interview and public forum today.

The Ferris State associate athletics director position has been vacant since Brian Kegler left to become the director of development for athletics at the University of Tulsa in July, 2007.

According to the Web site, the associate athletics director position will assist Ferris State athletics director Tom Kirinovic in the administration and supervision of the university's athletics program.

Some specific responsibilities of the associate athletics director will include the oversight of the athletic department's extensive marketing efforts, oversight of all department budget accounts and event management for the sports of football and men's ice hockey.

Kaverman is in his 10th year as Southeast's director of athletics, with his current contract expiring in June of 2009. Before taking the Southeast position, he was director of athletics at Missouri Western State University from 1995 to 1999.

Kaverman, a Michigan native and a graduate of Michigan State University, has held several other positions in the athletics field, including coordinator of sports medicine at Ferris State from 1980 to 1986.

Kaverman, who was in Michigan on Tuesday, did not return a message left on his mobile telephone.
