Dohogne captures first in golf outing

Sissy Dohogne took first place in the A flight at the Cape Chip A Ways weekly golf outing.

Lois Tweedy placed first in the B flight, while there was a three-way tie for the low putts between Vicki Howard, JoEllen Haas and Waunita VanDyke. Marge Kurre had the play of the day.

Post 63 Junior Legion team drops opener

The Plaza Tire Post 63 Junior American Legion baseball team dropped its Zone 4 tournament opener Thursday.

Post 63 managed two hits in its 12-0 loss to Ste. Genevieve Post 150.

Austin Davis and Tyler Buelow had the hits for Cape.

Post 63 returns to action today against Anheuser-Busch at 10 a.m.

Jackson freshman Legion team victorious

The Jackson American Legion Post 158 freshman team won its opening game in the Class A state tournament Thursday.

Logan Morris tossed a complete-game shutout as Post 158 defeated Anheuser-Busch 10-0 in five innings.

Post 158 advanced to face Springfield-Kickapoo today at 10 a.m.

Redhawks add women's basketball assistant

Southeast Missouri State women's basketball coach John Ishee announced Thursday that Elizabeth Cansdale has been added as an assistant coach for the upcoming year.

Cansdale served as a graduate assistant at Tulsa last year, and played at Ole Miss from 2001 to 2005. A native of Boulder City, Nev., she will work as the video coordinator, arrange travel, handle film exchange and other administrative duties.

"I'm excited about getting the opportunity to coach here at Southeast," Cansdale said in a statement. "The Redhawks women's basketball program has a successful history, and I hope that I can contribute to the continued success of the program. I'd like to thank coach Ishee and the university for this opportunity."
