Man-made oil I SAW a TV show a couple of weeks ago about man-made oil. Hitler did it during World War II. He had scientists come up with a formula to make oil to run his war machines. Why can't we do something like that instead of doing all this drilling and all this price gouging of American consumers?...

I SAW a TV show a couple of weeks ago about man-made oil. Hitler did it during World War II. He had scientists come up with a formula to make oil to run his war machines. Why can't we do something like that instead of doing all this drilling and all this price gouging of American consumers?

Thanks for mowing

WE WANT to thank the Cape Girardeau County Highway Department for the mowing it recently did on Route W in the Boutin Drive area. Everyone who drives in this area is thankful.

Public discussions

REGARDING THE recordings of county commissioners: What everyone seems not to get is the Sunshine Law says anytime two county commissioners are talking about county business it is public business. Therefore, it is impossible to secretly record any meeting where two commissioners are talking about county business, because all of those discussions are supposed to be public.

Something to hide?

THE GOOD old boys are doing everything within their power to discredit and destroy Cape Girardeau County 2nd District Commissioner Jay Purcell. What citizens should be asking themselves is why all these political powerhouses would come out so strong against Purcell. What is it that these guys have to hide?

Hand he was dealt

A RECENT comment stated that President Bush has not done that bad of a job, considering the hand he was dealt. The comment also stated that Bush had the fortitude to stick with decisions, right or wrong. The hand Bush was dealt was peace and prosperity. Now we have war and misfortune. Is it smart to stick with bad decisions? If I have a bad investment in my portfolio, I will not keep pumping money into it.

My salvation

I'm tired of going out.

I'm tired of staying in.

The only thing that keeps me going

Is the Southeast Missourian.

Questionable ethics

MORLEY SWINGLE, Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney, sought a special prosecutor to file charges against 2nd District Commissioners Jay Purcell and is actively campaigning for Purcell's opponent. I see a clear conflict of interest here. Perhaps the charges were only filed to make Purcell look like a criminal, helping Swingle's buddy win the election. If this isn't unethical, I don't know what is.
