Falling tree kills Southern Illinois man

CARTERVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- The coroner in Southern Illinois' Williamson County says a 68-year-old man was killed over the weekend when a tree fell onto him.

Coroner Mike Burke says Dennis Davie of Herrin died Sunday.

Burke says Davie and a brother were trying to cut down the tree near Carterville when it shifted and toppled onto him.

Burke says the case appears to be accidental.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
