Witnesses say the 48-year-old man was swimming to a raft when he began to struggle and went under water.

Indiana Conservation Officer Gene Davis says Spurgeon failed to resurface, so another guest at the Lake O' The Woods Club jumped into the water and began searching. Davis estimates Spurgeon was in the water about 10 minutes.

Coroner Victoria Deppe says her office is investigating what caused Spurgeon to struggle. She says an autopsy found no apparent medical condition, and Spurgeon didn't have drugs or alcohol in his system.
