Slinkard wins medals in taekwondo nationals

Nick Slinkard won the bronze medal in forms and the silver in sparring for the 14-15 age division at the AAU taekwondo national championships earlier this month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The 14-year-old competed in the intermediate division in forms and the 146-pound-plus division in point sparring.

Mabrey scores ace at Cape Country Club

Cape Girardeau Country Club member Jean Mabrey aced the eighth hole at the club on Sunday. The hole in one was the fourth of her career.

The feat was witnessed by Marcia Wagner.

Parks softball league winners announced

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department announced the winners of the summer fastpitch league.

In the 14-and-under division, Southern Express was first, Heartland Pride select second and the Jackson Hurricanes third.

Scott County Loose Cannons won the 16-and-under division with the Anna State Bank Outlaws second and the SE Tremors third.

Heartland Travelers "A" squad won the 18-and-under league, while the "B" squad finished third. Offspeed took second place.

Johnson, Johnson win Jacks-N-Jennies event

Jerry Johnson and Rosati Johnson won the Jacks-N-Jennies tournament at Kimbeland Country Club with a two-day total of 125.

The twosome's score topped the field by five strokes.

In a group at 130 were Pat Gorham and Gayle Gorham, Kent Phillips and Debbie Phillips, and Norris Johnson and Barb Johnson.
