Review: 'Step Brothers' is more of the same but still enjoyable

Is a review for this movie even necessary? I mean aren't all Will Ferrell movies basically the same? He always plays that guy that isn't very smart and has the maturity level of a 12-year-old. And at some point in the movie he will get angry, yell and throw stuff all over the place. If you've seen just about any of his movies, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

In "Step Brothers," Will Ferrell plays a 40-year-old that still lives at home with his mom. While John C. Reilly on the other hand, plays a 40-year-old that lives at home with this dad. Their two parents end up marrying each other, making the slackers step brothers. They are then forced to move in with each other and share the same room. At the beginning the two hate each other, but eventually they find out they both like the same things and become best friends. That is basically the whole movie. There really isn't much of a story to it, and it doesn't really need one. It's all about the relationship between these two obnoxious and immature guys.

It's great to see both Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in the same movie again. They were great in "Talladega Nights," and they continue the trend in "Step Brothers." From the moment these two meet, it's hilarious. They play off of each other so well. You can just tell that they had a great time making the movie. It amazes me how they can manage to keep a straight face when filming some of these scenes. I have a feeling there are going to be some great outtakes on the DVD.

But, while this movie is good and funny, I think I'm starting to get tired of seeing Will Ferrell play the exact same guy all the time. I mean if you think about it, this movie could really just be called "The Will Ferrell Movie: Part 7." The formula is getting old, and I'm totally ready for something different.

I will say, though, that "Step Brothers" is much better than the last couple of movies Ferrell's been in. While it's not nearly as good as "Old School" or "Anchorman" it's still worth the price of admission.

And it's pretty much guaranteed that you will leave the movie theater with a smile and a have a strong desire to buy a Chewbacca mask.
