Southeast volleyball hires assistant coach

Southeast Missouri State volleyball coach Renata Nowacki announced the hiring of Randi Raff as an assistant for the 2008 season.

Raff spent the past two years as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Purdue, where she served as the primary trainer for the Boilermakers volleyball, diving and women's golf teams.

Raff, a native of Rensselaer, Ind., played collegiately at Southern Indiana and helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a pair of NCAA Division II tournament berths.

"Randi brings a tremendous amount of energy to our program," Nowacki said in a release. "She shares the same goals and will complement our staff nicely."

Raff joins second-year assistant Jeremiah Larsen on Nowacki's coaching staff.

Southeast track team earns academic honor

The Southeast women's track team has been named a Scholar Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Redhawks had the nation's 17th highest grade-point average at 3.379.

There were only two Ohio Valley Conference schools recognized, with Eastern Kentucky (116th) the other. A total of 117 schools with 3.0 or higher GPAs were honored.

"Our athletes do a great job not only on the track, but in the classroom," new Southeast coach Eric Crumpecker said in a release. "It is an honor to be in the academic top 20 nationally."
