ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A 23-year-old man is shot to death after being flagged down to presumably help others.

St. Louis police identify the victim as 23-year-old James Fitch.

The incident happened Tuesday night. Fitch and a passenger were flagged down by a group of men. Police spokeswoman Schron Jackson says two of the men approached the passenger side of Fitch's car and started talking. One of the men pulled out a gun and shot Fitch as he tried to drive off.

Fitch eventually stopped and alerted an ambulance. He was taken to a hospital and died early Wednesday.

The passenger in the vehicle was unhurt. So far, no arrests have been made.
