ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — The son of Missouri Auditor Susan Montee is facing misdemeanor drug charges after being arrested earlier this week.

Austin L. Montee was arrested Wednesday and has been charged with possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

St. Joseph police Capt. Kevin Castle said that around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police officers were sent to check on a parked vehicle after a resident complained of suspicious activity by its occupants.

Castle said police found Austin Montee, who at the time was 18, and an unidentified 18-year-old woman in a 2005 Honda. Police also found less than 35 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Austin Montee has been issued municipal court summonses and was released from the Buchanan County jail after posting a $750 bond. The woman was not charged and has not been identified.

Susan Montee, a Democrat, was elected in 2006. A spokeswoman in the state auditor’s office did not immediately return calls Friday seeking comment.
