He was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Oran, Mo., to Peter C. and Sudie F. Stoffel Niswonger. He and Laretha M. Crites were married July 6, 1935, in Cape Girardeau. They had been married almost 61 years when she passed away June 25, 1996.

Marvin attended Cape Girardeau Central High School and then honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II from Oct. 13, 1942, to Oct. 19, 1945.

From 1954 to 1981 he owned Niswonger Sales, a wholesale distributorship which he operated from his home. After retirement he worked as a courier for Purolator and as a course marshal at Bent Creek Golf Course.

The Niswongers joined First Baptist Church in Jackson in 1947 and were faithful in church ministries. Marvin became an ordained deacon in 1951. He sang in both the Sanctuary Choir and JOY Choir, formerly taught Sunday school in the youth department and served on the building committee for the church sanctuary.
