The Rev. Douglas Scott

The Rev. Douglas M. Scott, 78, of Scott City died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, after battling pancreatic cancer.

He previously resided many years in Casper, Wyo.

He is survived by his dear wife of 54 years, Dolores; his children and their spouses, Diane (Scott) and Richard Hercher of Naperville, Ill., Cindy (Scott) and Ben Busby of Maeystown, Ill., and Greg and Bette (Derrah) Scott of Duncannon, Pa.; as well as eight grandchildren, Katherine, Traci and Elizabeth Hercher, Douglas and Robert Sandidge and Abrah, Rees and Marah Scott. Other survivors include two brothers, Harold Scott and wife Josephine of Clovis, Calif., and Gordon Casler Scott and wife Helen of Covina, Calif.

Born March 31, 1930, in Ecorse, Mich., he was later educated at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, with a bachelor of arts in history and a minor in psychology. He received a master's in divinity from Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Rochester, N.Y.

He pastored in Presbyterian churches in Webster, N.Y., Buffalo, N.Y., Casper, San Jose, Calif., and Cape Girardeau. During the middle years of his life, he worked as regional director of the Humane Society of the United States both in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Denver. He also served as assistant director of personnel at True Oil LLC in Casper.

His work earned him many supportive and dear friends, whom he always treasured. Despite great pain and many tribulations, he was keenly interested in everyone around him. His spirituality and great love of God will always be remembered and kept close in our hearts. We will miss him every day.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Robert Buchanan of Elkton, Va., officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
