Dalhousie hosted busy weekend of golf

The team of Jim Largent, Carol Largent, Gray Squires and Suzie Ruppert won the Labor Day Couples Scramble on Monday at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The foursome posted a net score of 60, one stroke better than the runner-up team of Mark Unger, Becky Unger, Darryl James and Harriette Myers.

Closest to the pin winners on the day: James on No. 5, Carol Largent on No. 8, Myers on No. 11 and Jim Largent on No. 13.

In Dalhousie's Men's Quota Tournament on Saturday, Ken Schmitz won one flight while Mark Unger and Todd Ladd tied atop the other.

The quota was determined by a player's handicap minus 36. Points were awarded for eagles (5), birdies (3), par (2) and bogies (1).

Schmitz topped the Blue flight with a score of 0. Jim Riley was next at -2. George Landre and David Kaelin tied for third at -3.

In the Gold flight, Unger and Ladd scored +3. David Clabaugh scored a 0 and Rick MIller was fourth at -1.

Angle medalist for J.C. Chip-A-Ways

Lil Angle earned medalist honors Aug. 31 in the J.C. Chip-A-Ways competiton at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.

Fern Trickey won the "B" flight and Waunita VanDyke had the low putts.

Kohlfeld rugby club ready to open season

The Kohlfeld Scorpions Rugby Club kicks off the fall season Saturday by playing in the annual Royals tournament in St. Louis. Twelve teams will compete in two-day, double-elimination event. Teams from Memphis, Chicago and Little Rock join Missouri squads in the tournament. The Scorpions finished third last year.

Kohlfeld's home opener is Sept. 18 at Arena Park against the St. Louis Royals.
