First Baptist Church pastor resigns

The Rev. Jay White has resigned as pastor of First Baptist Church. Dr. Bruce Gentry will be the guest speaker during services Sunday at 10:45 a.m.

Lynwood plans Biblical worldview conference

Lynwood Baptist Church is holding a Biblical Worldview Conference Sunday. Worship times are at 9 and 10:30 a.m., and from 5 to 7 p.m. Guest speakers include Dr. Danny Akin, president of Southeast Baptist Theological Seminary in Charlotte, N.C., and Dr. Kevin King, pastor of Anchor Way Baptist Church in Steamboat Springs, Colo.

MOPS group to begin meeting in October

The Mothers of Preschoolers will be meeting in Cape Girardeau on the second Friday of each month beginning in October. Child care is available for each meeting, which will be held at Cape Bible Chapel. For information or to register, call Andrea Roth, coordinator, at 334-4273. Registration is due by Sept. Friday.

'Purpose Driven Life' campaigns begin

Several area churches are kicking off "40 Days of Purpose" campaigns and Bible studies based on the best-selling book, "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. First Baptist Church in Jackson begins a campaign Sept. 19 at 9 a.m. La Croix United Methodist Church will begin its campaign Sept. 25 and 26. Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville will begin its campaign with a banquet Sept. 25. Two churches that completed the campaign, Centenary United Methodist Church and St. Andrew Lutheran Church, are doing follow-up studies and offering new Bible studies based on some of the book's principles.

Awana program begins at Cape Bible Chapel

Cape Bible Chapel will begin its Awana Club program for children ages 4 through sixth grade on Sunday. The club meetings are from 4 to 6 p.m. each Sunday at the church from September through April. Each meeting includes Bible memory games and Bible lessons. For information, call 334-5948 or Scott Coleman at 243-0938.

Boyd Family to perform concert at Church of God

The Boyd Family, a gospel group, will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 through 19 at The Church of God on East Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau.

Church presents youth program Sept. 19

Wesley United Methodist Church in Fruitland will hold a monthly Kid's Zone from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sundays, beginning Sept. 19. Activities include music, Bible lessons, crafts and refreshments. Children ages 5 to 11 are invited to attend. For information, phone 243-5948 Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Satellite program on spiritual direction offered

Fruitland Community Church will offer a satellite seminar on "Breaking Free" at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 18. The seminar is offered through a partnership with Church Communication Network and the American Association of Christian Counselors. Speakers include authors Stormie Omartian and Bruce Wilkinson, counselor and author Dr. John Townsend and author David Jeremiah. The program is for people who need spiritual direction, encouragement for Christians and training for Christians who give spiritual care. For information, call the church at 204-0724. Lunch is provided; the event ends at 5:30 p.m. There is a fee.
