Phelps family takes 14th at national tourney

Scott City's Nathan Phelps joined with his mother to finish 14th at the International Family Tournament bowling tournament in Baton Rouge, La.

Phelps, and his nother Diane, won the state tournament to advance to the national tournament.

Diane said it was the first time she and Nathan bowled together competitively.

"It was a blast," she said.

Thomas takes first in WGA event

Irene Thomas took first place in the 18-holes division at the Cape Girardeau Country Club's Women's Golf Association's weekly outing.

Shirley Talley was second, followed by a three-way tie for third between Lisa Bjelich, Priscilla Kirby and Mary Sue Layton.

In the nine-holes division, Judy Holcomb and Jean Mabrey tied for first place.

Kathy Morris was the medalist.

Johnson claims medalist honors at Kimbeland

Barb Johnson won medalist honors at the Ladies Association play day at Kimbeland Country Club.

Other winners were Harriet Drusch in championship flight, Sharon McCune and Lillian Schneider in A flight, Jackie Anderson and Dorothy Holland in B flight and Mary Rose James in C flight.

Cyclewerx co-ed team finishes first

The Cyclewerx Adventure Racing Team won the four-person co-ed division of the Campfire USA eight-hour adventure race near Walnut Grove, Mo.

The team finished in 8 hours, 13 minutes.

The team also finished second overall behind the all-male team of Downhill Bikes from Branson, Mo.

Cyclewerx also sent racers to Greensfelder Park near St. Louis for a mountain bike race. Brad Brown finished second in the endurance class, John Dodd took second in the single-speed class, while Scott Taylor finished fifth in single-speed.

Travis Thrower was third in expert class, Garrett Smith was fifth in sport class and Jeff Smith was eighth in the beginner class.
