Emily Kathryn Scherer and Kris Anthony Oliveira were married May 24, 2008, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, Mo. The Rev. Normand Varone performed the ceremony. Pianist was Amanda Dirnberger of Cape Girardeau, and vocalists were Alison and Lorna Gaffney of Maryland Heights, Mo.

Parents of the bride are Bruce and Michelle Scherer of Benton. The groom is the son of Dr. William and Diana Prickett of Las Cruces, N.M.

Maid of honor was Sarah Scherer of Benton, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Stacey Dobbins and Jenny Dunham of St. Louis.

Paul Dobbins of St. Louis was best man. Groomsmen were Jason Runyon of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Patrick Dunham of Cape Girardeau. Ushers were Travis Beggs of Benton and Doug Beggs of Blodgett, Mo., cousins of the bride; and Michael and Brian Edwards of Bloomington, Ill., cousins of the groom.

Flower girls were Julia Scherer and Adrienne Ekins, cousins of the bride. Julia is the daughter of Roy and Jody Scherer of Sparta, Mo. Adrienne is the daughter of Brian and Cathy Ekins of Fort Worth, Texas.

Guest book attendants were Jessianne Scherer and Andrew Ekins, cousins of the bride.

A dinner and dance reception was held at Deerfield Lodge.

The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner May 23 at Bella Italia.

Mrs. Oliveira is a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. She received a bachelor's degree in marketing management from Southeast Missouri State University in 2006, and is pursuing a master's degree in community counseling at Southeast. She is the retention specialist with the Office of Learning Assistance Programs and Disability Support Services at the university.

The groom is a 1998 graduate of Dexter High School. He received a bachelor's degree in computer science from Southeast in 2003, and is pursuing a master's degree in business administration from the university. He is a technology specialist with Cape Girardeau School District.

After a wedding trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple is residing in Cape Girardeau.
