Howard G. Shelton, 72, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Puxico, Mo., died on Thursday at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on March 19, 1932, at Malden, Mo. He lived in Puxico for many years.

He was a member of Puxico VFW Post 7822, the First United Methodist Church in Puxico and the Lions Club.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He worked as a maintenance supervisor for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

He married Jo Ann Snider on Jan. 26, 1952. She died on June 20, 1999.

He married Carolyn Sue Graves on Oct. 5, 2002. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Steve Shelton of Sikeston, Mo., and Mike Shelton of St. Louis; a daughter, Jo Leah Taylor of Puxico; a stepdaughter, Meloyde Sandlin of Bloomfield, Mo.; 15 brothers and sisters; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church at Puxico. The Revs. Kevin Eskew and Ray Placher will officiate. Burial will be in the Puxico city cemetery.
