BENTON, Mo. — A Cape Girardeau man was stabbed early Tuesday morning at an address near Benton, according to a news release sent out this morning by the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

At 2:28 a.m. Tuesday Scott County deputies answered a call at 1188 Route E near Benton of a person stabbed and laying in the road, the news release said. When they arrived the deputies found a 17-year-old Cape Girardeau man and two others in the road, covered in blood.

The suspected attacker, Allen G. Wilson, 18, of Benton was arrested on first-degree assault and armed criminal action charges. Sheriff Rick Walter said in the news release that the victim, whose name isn't being released, had been cut in the back of the head by Wilson, who had a cut to his right hand and "a laceration above his left eye." All three men smelled like alcohol, Walter said.

The stabbing weapon, a bread knife, was recovered and the 17-year-old victim was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital. According to the release, Wilson admitted to the stabbing, and breath tests indicated both Wilson and the witness, both of whom are underage, had been drinking.

The disturbance was originally reported as a burglary, but was actually a disagreement between acquaintances, Walter said in the news release.
