Marie Britt

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. — Marie Imogene (Jean) Britt, 81, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at her home in East Prairie.

She was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Wil­liam Ernest (Buck) and Thelma Aydelott Batson. She and James Orville (Pee Wee) Britt were married Oct. 11, 1966.

With her husband, she owned and operated a business in East Prairie for more than 30 years. Later she worked at Rick's Deli, Harry's and the Depot BBQ, all in East Prairie.

Britt was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Charles Eugene Ashcraft of Irving, Texas, Gary Ashcraft of Jackson, and Ricky Ashcraft of East Prairie; a stepson, James "Jim" Orville Britt of Jackson; four daughters, Shirley Bone Renaud and Donna Faire, both Cape Girardeau; Debbie Blumenberg and Marlys Coffer, both of East Prairie; three sisters; two brothers; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home chapel in East Prairie, with the Revs. Martin Lucas and Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
