Voter turnout falls short in Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Voters in the swing state of Missouri set new voting records but failed to meet turnout projections.

Secretary of State Robin Carnahan's office reports a record 2.9 million ballots were cast in Tuesday's general election. But the nearly 70 percent of eligible voters casting ballots fell short of the projections of 76 percent.

In the Democratic stronghold of Kansas City, turnout of 66 percent failed to meet predications of 70 percent.

St. Louis saw voter turnout of 71 percent, a figure on target with the 70 to 74 percent city election officials had expected.
