Southeast Missouri Hospital recently became the 126th hospital in the United States and the fourth in Missouri to receive the Magnet Nursing Services Recognition award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Magnet award, which is granted in conjunction with the American Nurses Association, is considered the country's highest honor for hospital nursing care. To attain the designation, a hospital must receive an excellent rating in 14 standards, which include assessment, diagnosis, quality of care, education, ethics and collaboration. Only 2 percent of the country's 6,000 hospitals have received the designation. The chief nursing officer at Southeast Missouri Hospital is Karen Hendrickson.

Ben Tally Jr. of Medicap Pharmacy in Cape Girardeau was recently honored at the national annual corporate meeting by being named to the President's Club. The award is presented to Medicap franchisees who represent the top 20 percent of the nationwide system by store sales during the past fiscal year.

William R. Schott, CPA, and managing partner of Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants in Cape Girardeau, recently completed a weeklong conference on federal tax issues. Among those issues were business tax developments, financial statement analysis for decision making and preparing for health-care coverage.

Gregory's Creations Unlimited in Dexter was recently recognized by Teleflora as a Top 2000 Sender for the year 2003. The prestigious award is given annually to florists who have transmitted a record number of floral wire orders throughout the year and indicates that Gregory's Creations Unlimited is in the top 7 percent of shops sending orders through Teleflora. The owner is Greg Banken.

Sandy Crites of Cape Girardeau was recently honored as State Employee of the Year by Missouri Health Care Association. Crites has been employed at Heartland Care and Rehab in Cape Girardeau for 32 years.

Billy Rodgers, package driver for UPS, was recently honored for completing 25 years of service with the company. Rodgers works out of the UPS facility in Cape Girardeau.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake recently recognized Mike Shain and KFVS-12 with a certificate of appreciation for their support in covering events and activities at the lake through the public-affairs show "Perspective."

Shawn Asmus of Automation Services Co. in Cape Girardeau has earned the designation of certified information systems security professional. This is the premier professional certification for information security experts.

Cape Girardeau city clerk Gayle Conrad has been awarded the designation of Missouri registered city clerk from the Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association and Southwest Missouri State University.

Donna Domian, Cape Girardeau investment representative for Edward Jones, was recently honored by the firm for her job performance. The recognition earned Domian an invitation to Edward Jones' annual managing partners conference this month in St. Louis.

Union County Counseling Services Inc. of Cape Girardeau participated in the Partners for Excellence in Psychiatry Training Program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. The program focuses on raising the standard of care for people with serious mental illness. Local staff attending were Bonnie Bradley, Kathy Faulkner, Jill Piper and Mary McMahan.

Richard Hinkebein was recently inducted into the Job Corps Civilian Conservation Corps Hall of Fame for his commitment, dedication and support for the Job Corps Conservation Program. Hinkebein has been a carpentry instructor at the Mingo Job Corps Training Center in Puxico for 34 years.

Mary Kay Future Executive senior sales director Jana Jateff of Cape Girardeau recently honored the quarterly top performers as star consultants. Those honored were: April Matlock, Jane Ruble, Sherry Campbell, Tina Ashby, Amy Cairns, Whitney Whitten and Jateff.

Jerry Reppert of Anna, Ill., was recently elected vice president of the National Newspaper Association. Reppert owns several newspapers in Illinois and Reppert's Office Supply in Anna.
