25 years ago: Nov. 23, 1983

Heavy rains that swept through the area during the night and this morning send most rivers and creeks to their bank tops, but there are no reports of flooding; Woodland High School at Lutesville, Mo., where heavy damage occurred during flash flooding last December, is closed because of the threat of Crooked Creek again overflowing its banks.

Ernie Walker Jr., a Cape Girardeau engineer, thinks too little attention has been paid to the city's riverfront area for a possible site for the proposed multipurpose building; he believes it could be located on the site of the old shoe factory on North Main Street.

50 years ago: Nov. 23, 1958

Nearly 1,500 people visited The Missourian's 12th annual Art Show yesterday and today; many of those who have seen all 12 shows say this year's exhibition of work by amateur artists of the district is by far the best.

Formal dedication of the new Southside Baptist Church building is held in the afternoon, with the Rev. H.H. McGinty of Jefferson City giving the dedicatory address; McGinty was pastor at First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau when Southside Mission was founded 21 years ago.

75 years ago: Nov. 23, 1933

The price of eggs, due to their scarcity, is mounting until it is from 25 to 30 cents per dozen at Cape Girardeau retail stores; farmers have few eggs to sell just now, and the demand is such that the price has soared.

With reduced fares going into effect Dec. 1, the Frisco Railroad, in a belated effort to get back its dwindling passenger business, is considering re-establishment of additional train service between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis.

100 years ago: Nov. 23, 1907

The Southeast Missouri Teachers' Association will hold its 33rd annual session Nov. 26 through 28 at Cape Girardeau; teachers will be present from all over this section of the state to the number of 500 to 600.

The Grey Eagle arrived in Cape Girardeau from St. Louis yesterday morning, being delayed a day by the dense smoke pall which hung over the river; the steamer had to lay up most of Friday; it reached Grand Tower, Ill., Saturday evening and remained there until yesterday morning.
