Slaten - Shaw

Laura Elizabeth Slaten and Joshua Ryan Shaw exchanged vows July 12, 2008, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. David Hulshof performed the ceremony. Readers were Carl Stricker of Charleston, Mo., uncle of the bride; Jennifer Schneider of Warrenton, Mo., and Jessica Cloborn of Cottonwood, Minn., cousins of the groom.

Pianist was Lenny Kuper and violinist was Liesl Schoenberger of Cape Girardeau, violist was Alex Smith of Bloomington, Ind., and vocalists were Mary Richards and Alan Bruns of Cape Girardeau.

The bride is the daughter of Stephen Slaten and Martha Slaten of Cape Girardeau. The groom is the son of Calvin Shaw and Vicki Shaw of Troy, Mo.

Matrons of honor were Stephanie Shreve of Cape Girardeau and Sarah Waller of St. Charles, Mo., sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Nicole Shaw of Troy, sister of the groom; Megan Koch and Jennifer VanGennip of Cape Girardeau, and Colleen Mullarney of St. Louis.

Jared Shaw of Hawk Point, Mo., was his brother's best man. Groomsmen were Randy Mendenhall of Oregon, Mo., John Stockstill and Rhett Brengarth of Columbia, Mo., Kevin Buck of Elsberry, Mo., and Josh Harris of Troy. Ushers were Jacob Shreve and Berin Waller, brothers-in-law of the bride.

Candlelighters were Katya Shaw of Troy, sister of the groom, and Julia Weber of Jackson, cousin of the bride.

Flower girl was Caroline Shreve of Cape Girardeau, niece of the bride. Ringbearer was Nicholas Christian of Benton, Mo., cousin of the bride.

Guest book attendants were Megan Totten of Blue Springs, Mo., and Lindsey Nelson of Kansas City, Mo. Program attendants were Kristin Daniel of Jackson, Ala., and Jennifer Salisbury of Kansas City, Mo.

The reception was held at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner July 11 at Port Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Shaw is a 2002 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School. She received a bachelor of science in elementary education in 2006, and a master's of education in instruction and curriculum in 2007, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is a first grade teacher with Mattoon Community Unit School District.

The groom is a 1999 graduate of Troy Buchanan High School. He received a bachelor of science in agriculture systems management in 2003 from the university. He is employed by Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. of Iowa in Effingham, Ill.

After a wedding trip to Negril, Jamaica, the couple is residing in Effingham.
