Kage FCE

The Kage FCE Club met Thursday at Saxony Manor with Verna Vogel as hostess.

The annual chicken and dumpling dinner was held at the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Center on Monday.

Club members provided baked goods for the Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship Ride-a-Thon held on Oct. 9.

Joan Meyer, Martha Slaten, Barbara Schaffner and Vogel will attend the leader training sessions at the Saxony Lutheran School in Farrar, Mo., on Nov. 5.

Slaten reported on the Southeast District FCE meeting held on Oct. 5.

It was reported that schools in Cape Girardeau County have recieved information regarding the essay and artwork contest for fourth-graders sponsored by the the FCE clubs in the county.

The Christmas luncheon has been scheduled for Dec. 9 at Dexter Barbecue in Cape Girardeau. The next meeting will be held at the home of Jane Clark. The club will have its auction to raise funds for its various community service projects.

Inez Statler reported that members are to submit reports on the projects conducted in 2004 by Jan. 2. This is earlier than in the past.

Edna Hey reported having received word that the club sent 583 cards to Military Mail last year and this was the highest of Family and Community Education clubs.

Verna Downen gave a program on skin care, "More than skin deep" and Schaffner gave a program on bipolar disorder.

Roberts Homemakers

Members of the Roberts Homemakers Club met at Riverside Regional Library in Jackson for their October meeting and annual Halloween party.

Following a carry-in luncheon, Judy Bryant presided over a brief business meeting. She read a letter from the American Red Cross sharing information about their work in the hurricane-damaged states and expressing thanks for the donation given.

It was voted to give $20 to the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.

Halloween surprises and a birthday gift were given to secret pals. Fellowship time was spent playing various Halloween games.

In November, members will meet at the Branding Iron Restaurant before going to the library for election of officers.

American Legion Post 63 Auxiliary

Members of American Legion Post 63 Auxiliary met at the legion hall at noon for a luncheon on Wednesday. President Caryn Michel called the meeting to order. Following the opening ceremony, the charter was draped in memory of Mary Gorden, sister of Lillian Burgfeld, who resides at the Missouri Veterans Home.

Dorothy Points invited anyone who could to go with her to Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis on Friday. In honor of her late husband, George Points, she bought a brick to support the Veteran's National Wheelchair racing event held in June 2004. The bricks were laid and are now the Veterans' Path of Honor which will be dedicated at the VA Medical Center at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Americanism chairman Peggy Blaylock reported a Missouri flag and an American flag were presented to Blanchard Elementary School in Cape Girardeau as requested by Dr. Barbara Kohlfeld. Snacks and soda will be taken to the Cape Girardeau Alternative School for "Make a Difference" day. A welcome basket of kitchen supplies will be presented this year by community chairman Myrna Powers to occupants of newly dedicated homes by Habitat for Humanity.

A motion was made by Muriel Day and seconded by Patsy Kimbrel to send the state a check for some optional obligations. Frieda Howard made a motion and Dorothy Miles seconded it to send $100 to the Auxiliary's district treasurer for the district's nurses scholarship. Howard, membership chairman, reported she has sent in dues for 112 members with a goal of 158 members.

Upcoming events for the month of November include the 14th District Meeting in Jackson on Nov. 7; on Nov. 10, the post will have their traditional Thanksgiving dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the new legion hall; on Nov. 13, the auxiliary will host a holiday bazaar from 1:30 to 7 p.m. at the legion hall. On that same date, the auxiliary will serve a chicken and dumpling dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Three hundred advance tickets will be sold by the legion and auxiliary members for $6 each.

Two letters were received from the Show Me Center announcing performances by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Nov. 17 and Moscow Ballet's "The Nutcracker" on Nov. 18.

The Salvation Army sent a Christmas volunteer registration form for members to sign. Volunteers are needed for Thanksgiving activities and Christmas activities.

The November meeting will not be held due to the post Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 10. The Christmas meeting will be held on Dec. 8 at the legion hall. There will be a gift exchange.

Town & Country FCE

Town & Country FCE met Thursday, at Killian's in Altenburg, Mo. Lois Seabaugh was the hostess.

Eleven members were present and Inez Knott became a new member of the club.

Shirley Heises, Mary Klaproth and Seabaugh attended the FCE fall district meeting in Greenville, Mo., on Oct. 5.

In observance of NAFCE Week, Oct. 10 through Saturday, the club planted a tree at the University of Missouri Extension Center in Jackson, displayed the club's Southeast Fair booth in the window of Ross Furniture Store in Jackson and attended the Presbyterian Church on Oct. 10 to hear member Darlene McCain's brother, the Rev. Warren Martinson, deliver the sermon.

Five members are going on the FCE sponsored three-day trip to mountain View, Ark., this month. Plans were finalized for members to attend the Leader Training Meeting in Farrar, Mo., on Nov. 5.

The club will participate in the community garage sale at the Osage Community Centre in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 6. Proceeds from the sale will be used for community projects.

Members brought Christmas cards for the Military Mail project. Treat bags will be delivered to Cottonwood Treatment Center on Friday for Halloween.

The candle-making program was held at the home of Shelley Sachs in Altenburg, Mo.

The Christmas party will be held at Illmo Bakery and Cafe on Dec. 9.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the home of Sue Jones. Club out will be Oct. 28 at McAllister's Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.

New McKendree UMW

The New McKendree United Methodist Women and guests gathered in the church fellowship hall in Jackson on Oct. 12 to celebrate the 135th Anniversary of the organization's mission work. The birthday party theme was carried out with balloons with each table decorated by the month's holiday. Guests sat at the table of their birthday month.

A short business meeting preceded the festivities with announcements of the fall district meeting held in Kennett, Mo., on Saturday, and for the Circles to collect for the World Thanks offering at their next meeting.

The celebration committee composed of Barbara Hartle, Tandy Wendel and Marilyn Fronabarger began the festivities.

Hobbs Chapel UMW

The Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Women hosted the annual area-wide UMW meeting on Oct. 5 with UMW members from several area churches attending. The event marked the 135th anniversary of United Methodist Women in Missions. A birthday party was held to celebrate.

The program was presented by the Rev. Jeanette Bragg of the Viburnum Emmanual and Sligo United Methodist churches. In addition to an informative program on missions, Bragg entertained with ladies hates and their histories.

The meeting was closed with individual birthday cakes served to each guest.
