Freezing rain and snow in the morning make driving difficult throughout Southeast Missouri and Illinois, and authorities warn motorists not to travel unless absolutely necessary.

ResortAir, a St. Louis-based commuter air service which recently expanded into Carbondale, Ill., could soon petition Cape Girardeau officials for permission to lease room at the municipal airport and serve this community.

50 years ago: Dec. 28, 1958

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is held in the afternoon at St. Mary's Cathedral; it is the Feast of the Holy Innocents and a day of prayer for fellow persecuted Christians.

With only two exceptions, county officers elected in November will officially take office Jan. 1; County Clerk Edwin J. Sander, who retires at the end of the month, reports he has administered the oath of office to all but two county officers, Presiding Judge R.S. Cunningham and Associate Judge Alvin Klaus of the county court.

75 years ago: Dec. 28, 1933

So much interest was shown last night at a meeting at Broadway School in a plan for adult and preschool education that plans are being made for at least five classes; made possible under the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, the classes will provide work for unemployed teachers.

A little remodeling is necessary to admit the new 1934 Buick sedan into the show room of the Winchester-Emerson Motor Sales; the door leading to the show room was too small and had to be widened to allow the new model to be displayed; it is 3 inches wider than last year's model.

100 years ago: Dec. 28, 1908

Bowman Brothers, real estate agents, report continued activity in real estate matters in Cape Girardeau; R.A. Grimes and family, formerly of Campbell, Mo., are residing on Bellevue Street; three of his daughters will enter the Normal School; Emanuel Geiser of Dutchtown, with his family, has purchased a house from Mrs. Emma Ruebel.

The warm weather of the past few weeks is causing vegetation to sprout; at the residence of Judge Rudolph Bahn on North Fountain Street, a crimson rambler rose bush covering the rear porch is covered with bright green leaves and buds.
