Blake Peiffer has made the adjustment.

Dropping down from heavyweight to 215 pounds, the senior scored a 6-3 decision against Ste. Genevieve's Jake Gegg as part of Jackson's dual meet win against the visiting Dragons on Tuesday night.

Peiffer, a Class 4 state qualifier last year in that weight class, turned Gegg for a three-point near-fall late in the match for the margin of victory.

Gegg, a Class 2 state qualifier at 189 last year, had a top-four finish in the recent 16-team Tiger Classic hosted by Central.

"Jake Gegg is a very good wrestler for them," Jackson coach Steve Wachter said. "That was a really good match. There were some really outstanding matches, especially through middle weights."

Jackson won all but three matches on the night en route to a 57-15 victory. The Indians improved to 4-0 in dual meets this season.

The Indians recorded some quick pins, with Clay Rouse pinning Steven Basler in 28 seconds in the 112-pound weight division, and Justin Darnell pinning Aaron Roth in 21 seconds.

Jackson wrestles this weekend in a tournament at Marquette.

Central splits twin bill

The Tigers split a double dual meet at Farmington, losing 50-30 against the host school for their first loss of the season.

Cental (5-1) beat De Soto 45-31 in the other match, recording four wins by forfeit.

Thomas Fleming (119), Desmond Howard (125) and Zach Wilson (160) were victorious on the mat in both matches with all those outcomes determined by pins.

Wilson had Central's quick pin of the night, 23.8 seconds against Farmington's Greg Bonnell.

The Tigers rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit to force overtime, but they couldn't pull out the victory.

Central trailed 36-16 with 7:26 left in the third quarter, but Rick Russell's layup on the ensuing possession sparked a 22-4 run to cut the deficit to four points with 5:51 left in regulation.

The Dragons opened a 47-40 lead, but Central closed the frame with a 7-0 run — capped by Andrew Williams' jumper that circled the rim with 12 seconds left to send it into overtime.

Trailing 55-53 with less than a minute left in the first overtime, Zach Boerboom hit a layup with 40 seconds left that led to the second overtime tied at 55-55.

The Dragons scored seven straight points to open the final period and held on from there.

Boerboom finished with 14 points before fouling out in the second overtime. Russell added 12 points before he fouled out early in the first overtime.

The Tigers shot only 7 of 13 from the foul line, while Ste. Genevieve was 22 of 29.

Delta tournament

Host Delta got 26 points from Taylor Smith to post a 52-40 win over Chaffee in the opening round.

The Bobcats finally put away the Red Devils with 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Amber Kirk led Chaffee with 20 points, including five 3-pointers.

In another opening-round game, Oran stuck with Valle for three quarters, but the Warriors outscored the Eagles 18-6 in the decisive final eight minutes.

Cheyanne King led Oran with 10 points.

In the final opening-round game, it wasn't a pretty start for the Indians.

But St. Vincent, which was held to two points in the opening quarter, returned the favor in the third, holding Woodland to two points and holding on for the 43-34 win.

Courtney Besand led the Indians with 16 points.

Taylor Steckman led Woodland with 18 points, including a pair of 3s.

St. Vincent will face top-seeded Meadow Heights in the 6 p.m. semifinal today, while Delta and Valle will square off in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal.
