'Killshot' release date

We've waited for almost three years since some scenes for the movie "Killshot" were filmed in Cape Girardeau for the movie's theatrical release.

In the interim several release dates were announced, then passed without the movie seeing the light of day.

Now another release date has been announced, possibly to capitalize on "Killshot" actor Mickey Rourke's Oscar buzz for the film "The Wrestler."

The Weinstein Co., the studio that produced "Killshot," says on its website that the film will be released on Jan. 23. That's about all we know right now, but check back later for more details on this story.

The end of Goody's

Here's the latest in the string of bad economic news with clear consequences locally: Goody's clothing stores is shutting its doors, including the Cape Girardeau store. The Associated Press reported the news today, and we've obtained confirmation that the local store is indeed closing.

We don't know how many jobs will be lost, but this is the latest in a string of job losses that have hit the area in the past few months.

Patton murder suspect appears in court

Police in Bollinger County say that on Dec. 30, John Wilfong waited for his legal guardian to return home from work and ambushed her with a .22-caliber rifle.

Today the 17-year-old appeared in court for his arraignment, and a date was set for his preliminary hearing.

In other news out of Bollinger County, the county government is defying the state government after a critical audit said the county was taking in a higher percentage of sales tax than is allowed by Missouri law. Commissioners say they'll continue to collect the taxes, anyway.
