Homecoming at Southeast

Homecoming is a time for nostalgia, school spirit and strengthening loyalty ties to your alma mater. At Southeast Missouri State University's homecoming this weekend, many of the activities also are indicative of the strong links between the university and the Cape Girardeau community.

In addition to the traditional parade down Broadway at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the tailgate parties at Houck Stadium and the homecoming football game at 1 p.m., there are several events that will take alumni into the community. One of those events is a Pep Rally Stroll in downtown Cape Girardeau beginning at 10 o'clock tonight.

Another event is the Seventy-five Plus Party/Abe's Boys Reunion for alumni age 75 and older at the newly renovated Marquette Tower.

And a bus tour at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, "Everything New in Cape Girardeau," will feature the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, River Campus, floodwall murals and Marquette Tower.

The homecoming festivities, with the theme "Bridge to the World," will also include special recognition of outstanding alumni, cooking demonstrations and the dedication of the university's new greenhouse at Old Sprigg Street Road and Bertling Street.

For Southeast alumni, homecoming is an opportunity to renew acquaintances and find out what's been happening on campus. For the rest of the community, it's an opportunity to put out the welcome mat and show the hospitality our city is known for.
