PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Iva Lee Schindler, 85, of Perryville died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 15, 1923, in Perry County, daughter of Leo J. and Gertrude Mary Moore Elder. She and Leslie "Les" Schindler were married July 26, 1941, in Perryville. He died Nov. 16, 1998.
Schindler had worked at International Shoe Factory. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Ladies Sodality, and was a volunteer for many church activities.
She was active in Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging and was an ombudsman for Perry County Nursing Home.
Survivors include a son, James Schindler of Perryville; two daughters, Mary Ann Jennings of Biehle, Mo., Patricia Schindler of Denver; her fiance, Paul Unterreiner of Perryville; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, six brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. Monday at Miller Family Funeral Home. Parish prayers with the Ladies Sodality will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Monday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
