Elinor M. Johnson, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Elinor M. Johnson, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Janesville, Wis., the daughter of Emil J. and Monica Mary Gagan Roesling. She and Erwin A. Johnson were married on Feb. 16, 1942, at Janesville, Wis.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1937 graduate of Janesville Senior High School. She worked at Parker Pen Co. in Janesville and was a homemaker for her family. She had also worked as a juvenile probation officer for Rock County, Wis., and later as a service officer in the Veterans Service Office in the Rock County Courthouse in Beloit, Wis. She retired in 1982.

She and her husband moved to Cape Girardeau in July 2005 from Janesville. She was a member of Old St. Vincent Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Erwin A. Johnson of Cape Girardeau; a son, Richard (Angela) Johnson of San Ramon, Calif.; a daughter, Mary (James) Maginel of Olive Branch, Ill.; four grandchildren, Justin (Lucia) Macklin, Troy Macklin and Calvin and Katie Maginel; two great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Ethan DeMaria; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil J. and Monica Mary Gagan Roesling; a brother, John Roesling; and two sisters, Margaret Ziegler and Esther Roesling.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with parish prayers at 4 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Old St. Vincent Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating.

Interment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Home Hospice.
