If there had been a Most Valuable Player for the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament, it would have been Scott County Central's Drew Thomas.

The senior guard scored 122 points in four tournament games to lead all scorers by a wide margin and lead the Braves (11-1) to their first championship in the tournament since 1990.

Thomas scored 33 in the championship game, including a slam dunk in the second quarter that helped ignite the Braves.

"There's no words to explain how happy I am right now," Thomas said after the title game. "For us to win it, and it took us a long time to win it, it's just an honor. We knew from the get go that we were going to play hard. We're going to continue to play hard. That's my main focus. I'm the leader of the team."

Thomas and the Braves weren't done with the week at that point, though.

Thomas scored 29 points Saturday as Scott County Central beat defending Class 2 state champion Harrisburg 76-45 in the MFA Oil/Break Time Shootout at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
