ANNISTON, Mo. -- Rodger Charles Self, 61, of Anniston died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis.

He was born Aug. 21, 1947, in the Deventer community of Mississippi County, Mo., son of Charles and Nadine Armer Self Jr.

Having lived in Mississippi County his entire life, he had been employed for a number of years at Thomason Shell Station in Charleston until its closing and then with the Sutherland Oil Company and Delta Growers Association until his retirement in February 2007.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion.

He and Debra Grissom were married Sept. 28, 1970.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Katy Layton of Charleston; three sisters, Cheryl Reinbott of Scott City, Joyce Russell of Wyatt, Mo., Melissa Triplett of Anniston; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with military rites provided by Missouri Military Honors Program.
