Three Day of Service events are planned for Monday. Michelle Obama has asked the nation to use Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a time to give back to the community in some way.

The Rev. Henry L. Clark Jr., pastor of the Joyful Praise Church of God, 1507 S. Sprigg St., has planned a unity walk.

The theme, "Legacy Fulfilled, the Dream a Reality," echoes both King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech and the historic election of Barack Obama.

Deacon Joel Hatchett said the walk will represent unity between the north and south sides of Cape Girardeau and that he hopes the east and west sides will join in.

The walk begins at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Show Me Center and move south to Joyful Praise Church by 2:30 p.m.

Hatchett said the walk will end with "food, fun, fellowship, music and an overall celebration."

The first of two American Red Cross events is a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Cash Depot, 143 S. Sprigg St. Call 800-GIVE-LIFE or visit www.givelife.org to schedule an appointment.

Donors must be in good health and have proof of identification.

The second event is an online class, "Be Red Cross Ready." This 30-minute online video offers plans for various types of natural and human-caused disasters and includes first-aid skills plus CPR and automated external defibrillators instructions: conscious choking, cardiac arrest/CPR for adults and using an AED.

Those taking the online class can also take the Readiness Quotient test and learn about becoming a disaster response volunteer.

The class is available at www.RedCross.org/BeRedCrossReady.
