The Jackson Board of Aldermen will decide Tuesday whether to extend the contract to finish the Jackson Football Park project.
The football park project contract is with the Jackson Area Youth Football League and ASA Asphalt Inc. Although the football park is owned by the city, no municipal funds are being spent on the project, according to parks and recreation director Shane Anderson.
The Advance, Mo.-based asphalt company is providing equipment and labor at no charge for grading work to prepare the park for three additional game fields and one practice field, he said. The football league is paying for the fuel for the project. The property is south of Highway 72, near Farmington Road.
The original contract for the work expired Dec. 31. Delays have made it necessary to extend the contract one year, Anderson said.
"The plans are to have three more game fields and a practice area," Anderson said. The league currently has two fields open for play at the park. Both existing fields have lights and bleachers.
The aldermen will also consider two property rights issues. The board plans on annexing portions of rights of way along Interstate 55 and U.S. 61 for property owned by the Missouri Department of Transportation.
If the resolution is approved, a public hearing on annexing the MoDOT land will be set for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at city hall.
The aldermen will vote on accepting a temporary construction easement deed from Richard and Aleda Phillips for phase three of the South Old Orchard Road improvement project.
Other business includes approval of the semiannual financial statement ending Dec. 31 and a bill amending the city's flood plain management ordinances.
The board's regular meeting was rescheduled from Martin Luther King Jr. Day to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at city hall, 101 Court St. in Jackson.
