IT is a fact that during economic hard times the entertainment and movie industries are profitable. It was during the Great Depression that the Golden Age of the movie industry and the first amusement park boom took place. It is simple to understand. It is escapism.

FDR did the wrong thing by not spending more money. World War II was the driving force that got us out of the Depression. WWII did this by significantly increasing how much money we spent. This concept is known as Keynesian economics. The belief behind it is that a nation's debt is controlled with two levers, one for goods produced and the other for cash spent. During that time we took over the market in arms manufacturing. Due to the increased government payroll, the market began to thrive. People purchased goods, and our pockets got fat. In retrospect we can see that spending money is a good thing.
