Everett Glen Bollinger, 81, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he had lived since 2005.

He was born March 10, 1927, in Sedgewickville, Mo., son of C.M. "Lum" and Clola E. Seabaugh Bollinger. He and Vesta Mae Hartle were married Aug. 13, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. She passed away Sept. 13, 2004.

Glen attended school at Sedgewickville.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945, having basic training at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. He was transferred to the Army Ground Forces Brigade 4, which was a testing unit for new radar sights for heavy anti-aircraft artillery weapons. He was honorably discharged in November 1947 and joined the inactive reserve. He was called back to duty in October 1950 and spent another year at Fort Lewis, Wash., in the electrical field.

After the military, Glen lived in Jackson and worked as an electrician until 1956 when he began working for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America at the pumping station near Marble Hill, Mo. In 1964 he moved back to Jackson and retired in 1986 as an equipment and controls technician.

Glen joined New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson in 1955, was a member of the Methodist Mens Club 30 years and had served as treasurer. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson more than 50 years, serving as post commander, and many other offices. He was a charter member of the American Legion Honor Guard, serving 30 years, including as captain.

Loving survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Mark Masterson; a granddaughter, Erica (Jim) Kimmel; and a great-grandson, Isaiah Charles Masterson, all of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Kay Bollinger, in 1954, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and until service time Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. An American Legion Honor Guard service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau or New McKendree UMC Radio Ministry.
