Kinder to talk Tour of Missouri

We received word today that Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder will be the featured speaker at this month's First Friday Coffee event, coming up this Friday morning. Kinder is going to speak before local business leaders about this summer's Tour of Missouri stop in Cape Girardeau.

Details released in Monday fatal accidents

Two people lost their lives on Southeast Missouri highways Monday evenings, one in Cape Girardeau and one in Scott County.

Cape Girardeau police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol released the names of the people killed in the accidents on Highway 74 in Cape Girardeau and Interstate 55. The Cape Girardeau crash killed a Jackson 7-year-old, while the Interstate 55 crash killed a St. Charles, Mo., man.

SEMO acquires Broadway properties

Southeast Missouri State University continues to expand, and today the school announced the acquisition of two Broadway properties that will help facilitate that expansion.

The school acquired Howard's Athletic Goods at 900 Broadway and the former Sinclair gas station at 834 Broadway through a charitable trust from owner Dave Howard. The buildings will be raised to make parking lots.

Power outage numbers dropping

The number of people in Southeast Missouri without power continues to drop, though thousands were still in the dark in the Bootheel this afternoon.

According to the Associated Press, 28,000 electric customers around the area remained without power early this afternoon. Click here to read more.
